CBMR currently lists 1,547 acres, 15 lifts, and 165 trails. The North Face and other expert zones are the signature, while separate beginner and intermediate terrain make the trail map broader than the reputation. Use the dated operating calendar rather than a fixed season promise.

The 401 is a high-alpine point-to-point trail commonly connected by road, not a self-contained loop. CBMBA status is the practical gate for 401, Snodgrass, and the lift-served bike park; mud, snow, private-land closures, and fire restrictions can change the day.
Use the Wildflower Festival's current bloom report rather than assuming one July peak. Snodgrass crosses private land and usually closes seasonally around the third week of August; Gothic Road, Rustler Gulch, and Kebler Pass cover different elevations.

The East and Slate rivers are local fishing options, but Colorado's documented Gold Medal designation applies to specified Gunnison and Taylor reaches. Check current voluntary closures and temperature restrictions before choosing an afternoon window.
The Crested Butte Nordic system provides groomed town-side terrain with current maps, passes, rentals, and lessons. Snowshoe access, winter trail rules, avalanche exposure, and parking differ by route, so use the Nordic and Forest notices before leaving the groomed network.
Elk Avenue's colorful historic buildings hold shops, galleries, coffee, pizza, cocktails, and dinner. Mountain Express links this town grid with Mount Crested Butte, including summer service every 20 minutes on the current 2026 schedule.
July 2026 access
Gunnison County reported Kebler and Cottonwood passes open in May 2026. Recheck the alert center before using either route.
